Agency spotlight: an interview with DYODE
David Cross |

Partnering with the right eCommerce agency can be the difference between success and failure. In our new, ongoing blog series, we’re sitting down with eCommerce agencies at the forefront of innovation and creativity to learn more about their business and how they serve their customers.
In this segment, we spoke to DYODE’s Vice President of Growth Marc Adelman. Founded by Tim Katz and George Mikhail, two former VPs at PACSUN and Tillys, DYODE has joined forces with some of the biggest brands out there, like Nicks Ice Cream, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Invisalign.
What specific verticals/segments does your agency have expertise in/focus on?
DYODE works across many retail verticals, generally with brands between $10 million and $100 million online revenue annually. We have vast experience in fashion and apparel, with about 40% of our clients falling in the fashion and apparel vertical, working with clients such as AG JEANS and NYDJ. Most importantly, our founders come from global retail, serving as eCommerce VPs at PACSUN and Tilly’s. That being said, we have experience with celebrity brands, food and beverage, consumer electronics, and health and beauty, and other verticals.
What eCommerce platforms have you built a practice around? Why?
We’ve built our practice around both Shopify and BigCommerce. We focus on eCommerce platforms that offer the functionality, flexibility, and ease of use needed to allow brands to be nimble and creative while keeping technical debt and complexity at a minimum.
Brands/retailers are looking for cultural alignment when selecting partners. How would you describe the culture of your agency?
We have a culture of “can do,” proactive eCommerce experts who have a passion for helping brands grow while having fun in the process. We call ourselves an anti-agency because many of us have sat on the client side and know that the status quo won’t cut it.
Don’t take our word for it, though. Here is what our client Greenpan has to say:
“DYODE exceeds all of our expectations for a partner who can truly help build our business. They have become an integral part of our team, strategize along with us and foster long-term growth. For any goal that we want to achieve, DYODE has an answer and a plan to get there. Plus, their project management and development are top-notch – no detail is ever missed. If you are looking for an agency that can take you to the next level, DYODE is the one!”
What are your agency’s top three areas of expertise? (design, dev, CRO, marketing, etc.)
- Marketing: both acquisition and retention
- eCommerce Site Builds/Redesigns
- CRO
Why are subscriptions/relationship commerce so important in today’s eCommerce landscape?
We believe every brand should consider a subscription strategy at some point in their growth journey. Subscriptions and relationship-based commerce are essential in today’s eCommerce landscape for brands for several reasons:
- Predictable revenue: Subscription-based models provide a reliable source of recurring revenue, which can help brands stabilize their cash flow and predict future revenue streams. This can be especially important for businesses that are still growing and need to ensure a consistent cash flow to support their expansion plans.
- Customer retention: Subscriptions and relationship-based commerce create stronger customer relationships, which can lead to increased loyalty and retention. When customers feel connected to a brand and receive personalized attention, they are more likely to continue doing business with that brand over time.
- Improved customer experience: Subscription-based models allow brands to offer a more personalized and convenient customer experience, which can help differentiate them from competitors. By tailoring their offerings to specific customer needs and preferences, brands can create a unique value proposition that sets them apart in the market.
- Data insights: Subscriptions and relationship-based commerce provide brands with valuable data insights that can inform business decisions and drive growth. By tracking customer behavior and preferences, brands can better understand their target audience and tailor their marketing and product development strategies accordingly.
Overall, subscriptions and relationship-based commerce can help brands build stronger customer relationships, increase customer lifetime value, and drive sustainable growth in today’s competitive e-commerce landscape.
